Case 2: GMGW-1 Remeshing of the HL-CRM

Goal

Generate an Order 8.5 (316 million cells, Medium resolution) mesh for the HL-CRM rev. 2 geometry model. As an optional part of this case, generate a mesh family by also meshing at Coarse, Fine, and/or Extra Fine resolutions.

For new workshop participants, your data will add to what was collected during GMGW-1 for evaluating the state of the art. For participants who also participated in GMGW-1, your data will document progress made on meshing processes and tools in the intervening year and a half.

Geometry Model

Download the HL-CRM rev. 2 geometry model from the workshop ftp site.

Right click on the file link and use Save link as.

If you must or prefer to use command line ftp, follow these instructions.

  • ftp files.gmgworkshop.com
  • login: anonymous
  • cd outgoing/HL-CRM_rev2_Geometry
  • get filename

Geometry model filenames are:

  • hl-crm-gapped-flaps5.prt
  • hl-crm-gapped-flaps5.x_t
  • hl-crm-gapped-flaps5.stp
  • hl-crm-gapped-flaps5.igs

NOTE: If you encounter problems (actual or just perceived) with the geometry model please report them immediately by email to meshingworkshop@gmail.com.

Meshing Guidelines

Follow the gridding guidelines from GMGW-1/HiLiftPW-3.

Target mesh sizes are listed in the table below and follow the mesh size nomenclature documented here. Note that unlike GMGW-1, only an Order 8.5 (Medium) resolution mesh is required for GMGW-2. The other meshes in the family are optional.

Required Data Submission

Document the process, resources used, timings, a priori metrics, and metric values during mesh generation. Report that data and more via the Participant Questionnaire (PQ).

Download the PQ now and update it through your meshing process. Do not wait until your mesh is done to complete the PQ.

Optional Data Submission

Once your mesh is ready for submission, save it in CGNS, UGRID, or PLOT3D format using the following naming convention:

  • MeshGeneratorName-LastName-Case2.ext

Your participant questionnaire should be saved using this naming convention:

  • PQ-LastName-Case2.pdf

Upload your files to the workshop FTP site using the following steps:

  1. URL: files.gmgworkshop.com
  2. login: anonymous
  3. bin
  4. cd incoming
  5. put MeshGeneratorName-LastName-Case2.ext
  6. put PQ-LastName-Case2.pdf
  7. bye

Once all files have finished transferring to the workshop FTP site, send an email to meshingworkshop@gmail.com. Include in this email other details about the files you uploaded such as file version and data precision. For example "CGNS V2.4.1, ADF," or "UGRID, Binary, Big-Endian, Double Precision, 8 byte integer."
